Cossutti Yacht Design signs the new More 40
After the remarkable success of the More 55, the yard More Boats, based in Split, has decided to build a new 40-footer, size that made the fast cruiser history.
The new More 40 aims to confirm the yard’s credibility in the fast cruiser market, ensuring a state of the art building process, finding the balance between furniture quality and their costs and keeping an eye on the ORC offshore races.
To do so, like he did for the more 55, the yard turned to Cossutti Yacht Design to develop the Naval architecture, the structures the exterior design and the interior layout; the interior design as well as the detail engineering has been developed by Pulse Yacht Design, a company with which CYD has been in closed relationship since many years.
The project philosophy of the new More 40 is the one of the sporty cruiser, that can be clearly perceived by the exterior design that reflects this attitude with the sleek lines of the coachroof, coaming and windows.
The coachroof reflects the lines of the yard’s flagship: big attention has been paid to the proportions to guarantee a sleek design ensuring enough volume for the interiors.
The bow area has been studied very carefully: in fact, the boat is equipped with a recessed windlass, with the anchor arm that enters directly under deck, the through deck jib furler and the possibility to install a standard retractable bowsprit on a dedicated recess on the sidewall, in spite of having It above deck.
Another interesting feature is the chance to choose between two different rig types: the first, more modern, with the shroud’s chainplates on the sidewall and the second, more classic, with the inner shrouds. The different between the two configurations is that the second one has a different sail plan, that allows to hoist a 140% genoa that gives more power in light wind conditions
All the manouvers have been studied to run underdeck, having in this way a flush deck, with a lot of sunbathing areas
The cockpit has been developed with a classic layout to ensure a great ergonomics both for races purposes and for cruising. The winches disposition is such that the maneuvers are distributed from the companionway to the steering wheels, giving a lot of space to the crew to move properly in the cockpit.
The open transom, together with the double steering wheels and the under deck main track, give an easy access to the boat meanwhile the optional bathing platform becomes the natural cockpit extension in the cruising version, giving the possibility to reach the sea in a very comfortable way.
The structural concept reflects the solutions adopted for the flagship. In fact, the boat structure is made by structural inner liner that runs from the bow to the stern, glued in the less stressed areas and overlaminated in the high stressed ones. The keel grillage has been made by a stainless-steel frame glued on the hull bottom and integrated into the composite inner liner. Together with the transversal frames that starts from the central floor, it creates a structural ring that withstands the keel, mast and shroud loads.
The bulkheads are all made of marine plywood, a part of the collision and the aft one, that are made of GRP to guarantee the proper water tightness and reduce the weights at the extremities of the boat.
Below deck the chice can be made between two different layouts: the standard one has three cabins, the head is located at the bow, traditional L-kitchen and a classical chart table; otherwise it is possible to have a second bathroom in spite of the chart table, making in this way the forward head dedicated to the owner cabin.
