For the second boat of Italia Yachts yard we designed a 47 ft boat characterized by a timeless classical design; the result was the Italia 13.98, winner of several awards, as the “European Yacht of the Year 2013” and “Best Sailboat of the Year 2016” for Sail and Cruising World magazines.
The Italia 13.98, developed for the best cruising experiences, stands out for her seagoing qualities, such as the response on the helm and the perfect balance between the sail plan and the appendages. The deck shows a great attention to the details, all the lines and manoeuvres have been hidden into proper recess to give all the comforts of a flush deck. The interiors have been designed taking care of each detail, looking at the best ergonomic layout and the nicest particulars to give to the owner a unique feeling. From the structural point of view, the boat has been design to have the right stiffness to withstand the natural loads. The hull has been laminated with an optimized lay-up including unidirectional and biaxial glass fibers. Different types of core have been used on the different areas of the hull and deck to assure the proper balance between weight and stiffness, for example in the forward area, where there are high slamming loads, a high density core has been used in combination with single skin laminate.
The structure is made by a matrix of longitudinal stiffeners and transversal floors laminated in a female mold with a combination of glass biaxial end carbon unidirectional fibres; when demolded it is glued and tabbed to the hull. The keel is made with a high modulus steel structure, which is assembled with the lead torpedo bulb; furthermore the fin is surrounded with two fiberglass covers to assure the proper foil geometry. The appendages have been designed to have the best sailing performances with a perfect maneuverability.
