Ridas Yachts RIB 62, the inflatable boat by Cossutti – Ganz Yacht Design

Ridas Yachts RIB 62 is an ambitious project. A powerful Explorer 62-foot RIB built with composite materials, with a Step hull, designed for fast cruise up to 35 knots in the severe conditions typical of the North Seas. A new and exciting challenge for the Cossutti – Ganz Yacht Design studio.

The collaboration of the Cossutti – Ganz Yacht Design studio with the Estonian shipyard Ridas Yachts dates back to 2015, initially for the development of various modifications to the boats of studio’s Estonian clients, then with the design and subsequent construction of the Ridas 37 racing sailboats ‘Katariina’ and ‘Velasquez’, to arrive nowadays with the first 62-foot RIB.

Ridas Yachts, a shipyard known for the high quality of its constructions, has a great deal of experience in the field of high-performance inflatable boats, starting with an initial 7-metre boat model, moving on to the 36′ Explorer, capable of reaching 65 knots, passing through several models produced for military and patrol purposes in Northern Europe.

With this new product, the collaboration between Ridas Yachts and Cossutti – Ganz Yacht Design has been renewed to develop an ambitious project: a composite Explorer inflatable boat, for safe navigation in demanding conditions, whose construction and hull characteristics allow it to maintain a high cruising average and an optimum sea keeping. In addition to this, the shipyard’s request was to develop an aggressive exterior design, while maintaining the aesthetic balance typical of the Studio’s projects, to be combined with simple but elegant and functional interiors.

The layout of the main deck presents, starting from the stern, an external ‘living’ area with two sofas, one of which has a ‘U’ design and one in line; from here there is access to the deck area with the linear galley on the starboard side, in front of which, there is the dining area located in the raised area to give better visibility. The layout is completed by the cockpit area with helm station and instruments and a double sofa. Going down to the lower deck we find a large master cabin with a double bed and two sofas, a breakfast-relaxation area to port, as well as a linear bathroom with separate shower and a guest cabin forward.

From a technical point of view, the rib has a stepped hull, optimized with the CFD, with an ‘interceptor’ on the transom to facilitate planning and trim in high speed turns. The basic motorization consists of two Volvo IPS engines of 440 hp each, sufficient to reach a speed of 28kn. In addition to this basic motorization, the project has already envisaged the possibility of equipping the Ridas 62 with other types of higher performance engines, both inboard and outboard, to allow the Rib to reach speeds of around 35 Kn.

The construction is made of GRP infusion with carbon reinforcements on female moulds. The interior furniture is also made of composite and contributes to the rigidity of the overall assembly.

The first example was launched in June 2024 in Tallinn, and we had the pleasure of testing her during an exciting sea trial.
